The story behind it is my son is starting school in September at our local village school. We went to the open evening to discuss him starting and after the meeting my wife signed up to join the PTA. She was discussing fund raising events and the PTA mentioned that their ride on mower was broken and was going to cost a lot to repair. This meant that the school field hadn’t been cut for a while and the kids were struggling to do PE and have break times on the field in the nice weather due to the length of grass. I mentioned that I  may be able to help as Fen Contracts has a ride on mower which would cut the field with ease.

The next morning I spoke to our MD, Chris, and asked if it was OK to use the mower to cut the field at the weekend and he said yes straight away, to which I was very grateful. Luckily the next day one of my colleagues was coming to Kent to collect our chipper so he could drop of the mower first at my parents.

I spoke to the school and explained that Chris/Fen was willing to help and they were very grateful.

Nicola collected the gate keys to the school on the Friday and I spent Saturday and Sunday mowing all the grass at the school, strimming the edges and around the trees as I couldn’t leave the job half done.

It was enjoyable to do as it brought back memories of when I went to school there. It was great to know that I was giving something back and to feel I was helping the school out so the kids could use the field.

The school were overwhelmed with the support from Fen. I have also had a few thank you’s from people in the village who’s kids go to the school.
