Carrying the Load for Jacksons
Jackson Civil Engineering
Last month we assisted Jackson Civil Engineering with a load test at their site on the sea wall near Hullbridge and Malyons.
Jackson Civil Engineering carry out works to Environment Agency assets.
“Within the ARPoW (Asset refurbishment Programme of Works) contract we carry out repair works to Environment Agency assets, Coastal and Fluvial. In these cases we are repairing failed coastal earth embankment defences that need verification they can take loading from mobile plant. These defences were constructed generally over 60yrs ago using locally sourced material not to a detailed design. When the defences are assessed from an engineering view point the FoS (Factor of Safety) is too low to allow plant to work on the crest. Carrying out these load tests allow us to “prove” the stability of the embankment enabling the works to progress and client gets an asset back in serviceable condition.” Project Manager, Jackson Civil Engineering.
We carefully manoeuvred our equipment down the side of a house to reach the sea wall area, ensuring we didn’t cause any damage to the residential property or gardens. Using boarding to protect the ground, we carried ballast across to the required area to complete the load test.
After the load test was carried out we removed all our equipment and ballast, leaving the site as we found it.
Far left – Narrow access between the houses for our equipment. Centre – The ballast being carefully maneuvered around the property. Finally, load testing being carried out.
